Centre News

by Pam Mitchell CDO

Welcome to our revamped centre newsletter. I hope you agree that it has a fresh new look with more centre news and an easier to read format. We have also changed from a term newsletter to a semester newsletter, which means there will now be two newsletters per year instead of four (so don't throw this one away, you may need it later!). This last term at the centre has been extremely busy with over 65 courses, workshops and programs being offered. Some of the highlights were the history tours (which are always very popular), the regular Men's Days at the shed, the continued growth and expansion of the community garden and the centre celebrations held for volunteer week. For the remainder of the year we are thrilled to be able to offer a diverse range of activities, events and classes, including Buddhist insight meditation and Zumba the new dance/exercise craze.

Another exciting development - is the redevelopment of the William Eatts playground at the Sellicks Community Hall. The City of Onkaparinga and the Community Centre are working with local community groups to create a unique and fun space for the community, which will also have a community art component.

Take time to browse through this newsletter and timetable and come along and do something good for your health, make new friends, try something new or offer your services to your community (we are always looking for an extra pair of hands at the centre.)

Saftey Assist Network

The Aldinga Community Centre is now an approved Safety Assist location and reliable help is available here to anyone who has concerns for their safety. The problem could range from being lost, injured, bullied, and frightened or feeling unsafe, to needing to contact road service or call for emergency services.

Volunteers

Volunteers are required for the front office, to help in the kitchen, children's programs /crèche and tutors in the Computer and Adult Literacy Programs. This is a great opportunity to help your community and meet local residents.
