have their own laptops.

Computing


At the Community Centre we have our own computer suite. It is equipped with the latest desktop computers all running Windows 7, but if Vista is required students can use this by using our dual boot menu. The computers use the latest software - Office 2010 Suite. We have our own laptop and projector to project our lessons onto a screen so all students can see what we are talking about. The lessons are generally 2 hours to 2.5 hours duration with a tea and coffee break. If you have your own laptop you are welcome to use it for the lessons, we can provide you with access to the internet via our wireless system.

Windows 7
Windows 7 classes will show students how to use Windows 7, how to customise the desktop and start menu's to suit each individual. We will show students how to organise their library folders, create user accounts, fix, tag, and rate images using Live Photogallery, rip music from CD's and organise their music using Windows Media Player. Students will learn how to burn their own music compilations to CD and make them aware of security and virus protection, create backup's and restore files from a backup, install and remove software and perform computer maintenance. We provide notes for Windows 7 lessons, a small fee is charged to cover the cost of printing and paper. We put all the notes together in a bound folder for students at the end of the term at no cost.

Internet Plus
Internet Plus will teach students about the internet, how to use a browser and a search engine, how to browse anonymously, how to delete their temporary internet files and how to change their home page. Students will learn how to download and install Skype and learn how to make text calls, voice calls and video calls to other people. We will show students how to use webmail, create and use an account in Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail. We will demonstrate online photo sharing with Flickr. We will create an account in Facebook and show students how to limit the things they share on Facebook and, if time permits, we will show students how to use Ebay. We provide notes for Internet plus lessons, a small fee is charged to cover the cost of printing and paper. We put all the notes together in a bound folder for students at the end of the term at no cost.

Digital Storytelling
Digital Storytelling is about getting images into the computer from either a digital camera or a scanner then storing the images in a organised manner and renaming the files to something that makes it easy to find the images again later. Students will learn how to adjust the size of the image, fix the image in Photogallery, combine and fix images in Phoenix using Aviary Online Cloud Computing. Students can also use their images to make a movie using Windows Moviemaker and then burn their movies on to DVD. We provide notes for Digital Storytelling lessons, a small fee is charged to cover the cost of printing and paper. We put all the notes together in a bound folder for students at the end of the term at no cost.

MsOffice Publisher (Beginners or Advanced)
Design and create a range of publications in the form of flyers, posters, greeting cards, using text frames, clipart (or personal photos), shapes, Word Art, reverse text and much much more.

Create simple presentation slides using, text, pictures, slide transitions, custom animation and background designs etc.

Basic Excel
Get help creating and managing spreadsheets for your personal use. Learn how to apply and use formulas, sort, format and filter data, freeze titles and turn your data in charts. Basic computing skills a must - one on one tuition.

Computing for beginners
This course is for people who have not used a computer and want to learn how. It covers what a computer is - parts of the computer and terminology; using a mouse and keyboard; using Windows and the basic skills of understanding and using storage, copy and paste and basic text editing, plus saving and printing.

Publisher
Covers the basics of desktop publishing using Microsoft Publisher with opportunities to practice the skills learnt to produce a poster, flyer, menu or brochure.

Using A Digital Camera and Basic Graphic Manipulation.
Covers the basics of using your digital camera with opportunities to experiment, downloading images to a computer and inserting them in documents emails etc. The second part of the course covers using graphic software to enhance and manipulate images.

Vinyl to CD
Basics of digital and analogue sound are explained. Students will find out how to record to the computer from an analogue device such as turntable or cassette recorder and then burn a music CD from there.
