MISSION STATEMENT

 

To provide a relaxed and accepting place at which both volunteers and paid staff can enjoy working with local residents, groups and agencies to make positive changes towards personal development and the development of a healthier community.

OBJECTIVES

 

The objectives of the Centre shall be:

  • To enable and provide activities of a benevolent nature without discrimination including support, practical assistance and relief to those people in the local community who are economically and socially disadvantaged.
  • To provide a focal point for people in the local community for use by small groups for community activities, information services and counselling.
  • To be a place where both adults and children can meet with and support other adults and children in a wide range of social, educational and recreational activities.
  • To provide a contact point for people requiring assistance or support from voluntary and/or government agencies.
  • Too foster a sense of belonging to a caring community in which people support and accept each other.
  • To ensure that all activities are made available to a majority of the local community.
  • To do all such things as may be incidental to the attainment of such objects.

 

 

VOLUNTEER POLICIES, RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

As a volunteer you have the right:

  • To receive accurate information about the organisation and its policy and/or philosophy on volunteers
  • To receive a clearly written, comprehensive list of your responsibilities
  • To have a reasonable understanding of lines of responsbility
  • To be seen as an individual, deserving of individual support while performing your role
  • To receive proper training, initially and on an ongoing basis
  • To know who to turn to with problems and difficulties
  • To have your work valued by the Management Committee
  • To regularly receive constructive feedback
  • To be trusted with confidential information if it is necessary in order to carry out your job
  • To be safe on the job
  • To be covered by insurance
  • To have choices
  • To be able to negotiate
  • To say "no"
  • To carry out your role without being exploited
  • To be taken seriously
  • To be consulted on matters which directly or indirectly affect you and your work.

 

As a volunteer you have the responsibility:

  • To attend the ACC punctually when rostered on and ring if unable to attend, providing as much notice as possible so that a relief volunteer can be arranged
  • To be neat and appropriately dressed
  • To respect confidentiality
  • To treat the ACC's users politely

 

Volunteer Strategies:

  • All volunteers will receive an initial interview
  • Volunteers are to fill out an application form and have details recorded on a personnel card
  • Volunteers are to receive a copy of the Volunteer Information Booklet which includes a diagram showing their position within the ACC.
  • All volunteers are to receive orientation/training sessions before commencing duties
  • On the job training will be provided including fire safety and first aid procedures. Volunteers are able to attend ACC run first aid courses using their tokens to cover costs.
  • Other training will be provided when available
  • Volunteers are to be protected by insurance
  • Volunteers are to be provided with identifying name tags and a photo on the volunteers photo board on display in the ACC.
  • Volunteers are to be reimbursed for out of office expenses but approval from the CDO must be gained before purchase
  • Lockers to be provided for personal belongings
  • Volunteers to be offered tokens for work undertaken and not expected to contribute for tea/coffee and for costs of fund raising events at which they assist.
  • Volunteers are asked for regular feedback on volunteer experience and to receive evaluations should their perfomance warrant it
  • Volunteer's efforts to be recognised at an annual Thank You Luncheon during Volunteer Week and by letters to the editor during relevant volunteer's weeks and days

TOKEN POLICY FOR VOLUNTEERS

 

The Centre has a policy whereby volunteers who so desire are reimbursed with tokens which are redeemable within the Centre to cover course fees. Volunteers currently work in the creche, cafe and office and assist with fund raising. We are always looking for volunteers to teach courses at the Centre. Enquire at the office for more details.

  • Only half the cost of admission fees for fund raising events can be paid with tokens.
  • Only $20 worth of tokens can be carried over to the next financial year if the volunteer is no longer working at the Centre.
  • Courses costing more than $50 can only be paid for 1/2 in tokens.
  • No tokens may be used for any joint fund raising activity or event.

 

 

NB: Tokens do not apply to the following groups as they are separate hirers of the hall.
